Curtis Smith, PA-C

Curtis Smith, PA-C is a Physician Assistant with Western Surgical Group, where he provides comprehensive surgical and clinical care with a focus on bariatric medicine.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training from California State University, Long Beach. Following graduation, he practiced as a certified athletic trainer for eight years, gaining extensive experience in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and patient-centered care before pursuing advanced medical training.

In 2005, Curtis completed his Physician Assistant education at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, earning a Bachelor of Clinical Health Sciences. He began his PA career at Reno Orthopedic Clinic (2005–2007), where he managed patients with sports-related injuries, degenerative joint conditions, and acute fractures.

Since joining Western Bariatric Institute in 2007, Curtis has played an integral role in delivering high-quality patient care across clinic, hospital, and operating room settings. His responsibilities include surgical first assist, inpatient management, and longitudinal outpatient care. In addition, he develops and implements evidence-based pre-operative and post-operative fitness and exercise programs to optimize surgical outcomes and support long-term patient success.

Curtis is also an Assistant Clinical Professor with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine Physician Assistant Studies Program. In this role, he mentors multiple PA students each year during their clinical training, providing hands-on instruction, surgical exposure, and professional guidance. In recognition of his dedication to education and mentorship, he was honored as “Clinical Preceptor of the Year” in 2024.
