About Vinh D. Vu, DO
Dr. Vinh Vu joins Western Surgical Group with comprehensive training in general surgery and a distinguished background in clinical research. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from UC Irvine and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from A.T. Still University, Dr. Vu completed his general surgery residency at Oklahoma State University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident and Chief Council Chair.
Dr. Vu brings a unique blend of surgical skill and research excellence to patient care. Before medical school, he spent six years as a research assistant and clinical research coordinator at Stanford University Medical Center’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, contributing to numerous publications on hepatitis B and C management. His scholarly work includes nine peer-reviewed journal publications and 32 abstract and poster presentations at national conferences.
Throughout his residency, Dr. Vu demonstrated exceptional leadership, serving on the Morbidity and Mortality Committee, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and Nurse and Physician Leadership Committee. He is passionate about education and has mentored countless students through programs at multiple institutions.
Board-certified in BLS, PALS, ACLS, and ATLS, Dr. Vu also holds advanced certifications in laparoscopic surgery (FLS), endoscopic surgery (FES), and Da Vinci robotic surgery. Conversational in Vietnamese, he is committed to providing accessible, culturally sensitive care to diverse patient populations. When not in the OR, Dr. Vu enjoys coaching youth basketball, a reflection of his dedication to serving and mentoring the next generation.
